A PUSH MAY BE NECESSARY

There was a rich man who had only one daughter – a beautiful damsel to behold. When the daughter was old enough for marriage, the rich man sent news around town that all the eligible young men should come to compete in a test which would determine who was fit to marry his daughter.

On the set day, all the able-bodied young men came out with all sorts of paraphernalia. Some came with writing materials, some with swords, and some with trendy designer wears. The rich man took them to his swimming pool and addressed the contestants thus:

“Any of you who can swim from one end of this swimming pool to the other would marry my daughter. In addition, I’ll enrich such an individual with $50 million USD, a car of choice and a well-furnished duplex. I shall be waiting to meet my son-in-law at the other side of the pool. Good luck!”

As the young men, all very excited at the prospect of winning, started taking off their shirts, a helicopter came over the pool and dropped snakes and crocodiles into d pool. Immediately all the zealous young men turned to their heels. Disappointed, angry, scared, and dejected, some of them said in resentment, ”let the man keep his daughter and his money to himself”. To avoid an early death, a wise man does not sleep in the den of a hungry and untamed lion.

All of a sudden, there was a splash in the pool…a daredevil is in the pool. Everyone watched in amazement as one gentleman struggled his way across; avoiding the snakes and crocodiles. Finally, he made it to the other side.

The rich man could not believe it. In utmost excitement he welcomed the young man with a warm embrace, but the man would have none of it, panting uncontrollably. Finally, he got his breath, looked at the admiring crowd, and questioned: ”can somebody show me the person who pushed me into the pool?”

MORAL: You don’t know what you’re capable of doing, until there’s a PUSH. Retrenchment, broken relationship, death of a loved one, etc may be a necessary PUSH sometimes! However, don’t always wait for events and circumstance to PUSH you into action. Explore your innate ability to PUSH yourself into action!
